Arrive early to check in! Tryouts will begin promptly at the times indicated above. Players should arrive 15 minutes early to allow for sufficient check-in time.

How old is my child? Your player's age for LMLL Travel baseball purposes is determined based on how old he/she will be on April 30, 2024.

Level of player commitment:  Playing on an LMLL travel team is a commitment that must be made and followed by every player.  Players chosen to join an LMLL travel team commit to participate in all practices and games.  Players are NOT permitted to play for another travel baseball team in the same season outside of our organization.  Players who play other sports or participate in other activities also commit to making LMLL travel their absolute priority.  In past seasons we have numerous teams shorthanded in the summer season due to last minute family trips/etc.  If you want to play summer travel you must commit to being available FOR ALL PRACTICES/ GAMES/ TOURNAMENTS through the end of the PLAYOFFS.  If you do plan a summer vacation, then we expect you to plan it for the last two weeks of August when the summer travel season is finished.

Players found to be simultaneously playing on a non-LMLL travel team will receive a warning and subsequently a suspension from participation with the LMLL travel program, with no refund of fees

Players who are selected to a summer travel team and commit to play are expected to follow through with this commitment and be part of the summer team and program.  Late withdrawals are not appreciated as we have to turn many players away through the tryout process by way of player “cuts” and a late withdrawal means it can leave a team shorthanded going into the summer season. It is very difficult filling unexpected roster opening as the season is getting underway.  Please make sure you are ready to commit to a season before accepting a position. We do not allow “Test Drives” in our program, we want committed hard working baseball players who are looking to develop their ability.  Withdrawals will result in a forfeit of the deposit and any other fees paid.

Summer Travel Baseball: Summer Travel teams should expect to play three or four games a week, some on weeknights and one or both days on the weekends. Teams practice nearly all off days, so expectation is your player will be doing something with the team 5 to 7 days a week. The goal is to field competitive Travel teams at all levels and we do not guarantee selected players will get equal playing time. We participate in the GHVBL (Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League). Note, away games can sometimes be in towns up to a 60–75-minute drive.  The season will go from early June to early-mid August (for teams that make it all the way through playoffs).  Season fees will be determined in the spring; last year’s Summer Travel Team fees for these ages were approximately $800-$1000 depending on the level of team selected to.  This fee includes uniform and other gear.

“Playing Up”. Players may indicate interest in trying out for the team one year above their current baseball age when registering.  ALL PLAYERS must attend the tryouts for their OWN age group.  Players should only indicate interest in trying out to “play up” if you are extremely confident their ability would make them a key player on the higher age up “Tigers Black” (top) team.  This means they would stand out as a starter and be in the top 4-5 players on that older team.  Players who are determined to meet this requirement will be invited to stay for a subsequent tryout with the older team to assess if this opportunity is right for the player.  “Play-up” players not selected for the higher age team will automatically be considered for a team in their own age group.

Note the league at times, based on player reg and interest, may combine older and younger aged players on a “Tigers Orange” team. This is done when the registration numbers can’t support two full teams at one at so instead of not having a team and offering a place for many players to compete, we will accommodate by combining ages.

How to registerPlayers must register in advance for the tryouts through the LMLL website by going to the 2024 Travel Baseball Players registration.  The deadline to register for tryouts is Friday, October 20, 2023 and a $25 tryout fee (plus small processing fee) will be required to be paid at registration by credit card or ACH bank transfer (no checks accepted for this registration).  If you already have a SportsEngine account and player profile from LMLL 2023 or from another local sports league, use that account – do not create a new account or player profile.  If not, you will be prompted to create an account as well as your player profile(s) as part of the registration process.  Whoever creates your account and registers the player(s) will be the only person (or at least the only account) that can register those player(s) in the future.  Additional adults can be added to the account, but they won’t be able to register the players (see Adding Parents/Guardians in SportsEngine for more information).  All players must satisfy LMLL eligibility requirements.

Location? The tryouts will be held outdoors this year.  The location will be indicated in your tryout assignment notification the last week of October.

Which season is this for? Tryouts are primarily for the purpose of assembling LMLL Travel SUMMER 2024 teams. These tryouts are for the purpose of assessing players to assemble the most competitive teams for the summer season.   Summer players will have priority over all non-summer players to be given a roster spot on Spring (if the team is playing spring) and fall travel teams.

How are players selected for summer teams?  All players will be assessed by the travel committee as well as coaches to be considered for a roster spot.  The travel committee will make all final decisions as to which team these players will be rostered to based on skill, travel league needs and coach request.

Non-Summer (Spring and Fall seasons) Interest players:  Players who register interest only for the Spring and Fall seasons will be assessed by the travel committee and coaches to be considered for a roster spot.  The travel committee will make all final decisions as to which team these players will be rostered to based on skill, travel league needs and coach request. Players interested to play these seasons must attend these tryouts as no separate tryouts will be held for Spring or Fall Travel. Please note spring travel generally will be offered from 10U through 13U depending on player availability.  The younger ages we have seen have difficulty having enough pitchers to successful compete, and starting at 13U teams have several players committed to play school baseball which again makes it hard if not impossible to compete.  Teams playing a spring season, and any additional players selected to play on them, will be determined after Summer teams are selected depending on team composition.

What to bring? What to Wear?  Players should wear baseball pants, baseball cleats and must wear proper protection (athletic cup) as if they are going to play a game. Bring your bat, helmet, glove, other gear you regularly use to play baseball (example catchers’ equipment if you are a catcher).  As tryouts will be outdoors, please dress appropriately, including warm outerwear when not on the field.

What if my player cannot attend either tryout date?  You must still register and pay the tryout fee by the tryout deadline to be considered for a Travel team; indicate in your registration comments the reason(s) you are unable to attend.

What about 8U? The 8U age players will have a tryout in the spring.  Notification will go out to all players at this age.  8U players are not eligible to register interest to “play-up” on a 9U team.

What about 16-17U?  Tryouts for older Travel teams will take place later as part of a winter program; information to come.

Who is evaluating? The 2024 Travel coaches and LMLL Travel Baseball Commissioners will be on hand to evaluate players for purposes of picking the 2024 teams.

Next steps. 2024 LMLL Travel Summer team selections will generally be communicated prior to December 1st. A $500 non-refundable deposit (plus processing fees) will be due at that time to hold a player’s roster spot.

Spring Rec baseball participation. LMLL Travel baseball is designed to supplement and support LMLL Recreational baseball. LMLL Travel players (9th grade and younger) will be required to register for and participate in the LMLL Rec Spring baseball season (Rec registration will open later in the year).

CoachesIf you are interested in volunteering to assist in coaching a Travel team, please complete a 2024 Travel Baseball coaching registrationYou will need to have or create a SportsEngine account - if you already have one from last year or another league, please use that (see Adding Parents/Guardians in SportsEngine for information about how to link an existing adult account to another account containing player profiles).  You will also be required to complete a 2024 LL Volunteer registration and a 2024 Background Check registration  – see our Volunteer Registration page for details. (NOTE: These two additional registrations are not available for 2024 yet; those who complete their Travel coach registration now will be notified when you need to complete them.) Please note parent coaches and assistant coaches are required to register and coach in our Spring Rec baseball season to be eligible for coaching in Travel.  A travel team may have one manager who would hold an administrative role on the travel team who is exempt from volunteering for the rec. program.  No exceptions.

We are looking forward to another successful year of Travel baseball in 2024!
