Registration Deadline SUNDAY, APRIL 21!

Hello Baseball Families:

Please read below announcement for players interested in Travel baseball (players already selected for a 2024 LMLL Baseball Travel team can disregard this message):

Summer 8U Travel Baseball Team: The LMLL Travel Baseball program is holding tryouts for the 8U age summer travel baseball team. All LMLL rec players who are 8 years old on April 30, 2024, are eligible to be considered.  We are also soliciting interest for 8U Travel coaches – please see below if you are interested. Deadline to register is Sunday, April 21.

Summer 9U Travel Baseball Team: LMLL is also holding additional tryouts at the 9U age level as there are a few spots open on a 9U team for summer.  These players who will be 9 years old on April 30, 2024, are eligible to tryout.

Summer 10U to 15U travel teams update: We are also re-opening the registration for interested players age 10U through 15U (players who will be age 10 through 15 on April 30, 2024) as there are a few open positions on some teams.  No tryout will be held for this.  We ask if you are staying local this summer and are interested to be considered to play on an LMLL travel team to please register your interest.  (If you previously registered for 2024 Travel for tryouts in fall 2023 or otherwise, you can’t register again, so instead please email BBTravel@LMLittleLeague.org to let us know if you are still interested.) Deadline to register/email interest is Sunday, April 21. For 10-15U we will distribute the interest list to our travel coaches and if there is a match for the positions they need, travel coaches will reach out directly.  There will not be further announcements from the league for the 10U-15U travel teams.  If you do not hear from a travel coach by May 15th then your player was not selected to join a summer travel team.

The Tryouts for 8U and 9U only will be held on Saturday and Sunday, APRIL 27th and 28th at 4pm. Location will be sent out to registered players. Players only attend one of the two tryout sessions – you will indicate availability when registering and will be notified which session you are assigned to attend.  Only players registered for these tryout sessions (see below) will be permitted to attend and tryout.  The LMLL travel program will only consider players who are participating in our Spring Recreational baseball/softball season.

8U and 9U Tryout Registration - Click here to register (9U players who already registered for tryouts last fall will not be able to register again – instead, please email registrar@LMLittleLeague.org to indicate you want to tryout and include the player’s full name and which of the above days they are available to tryout – if they are available for either, please indicate that, and tell us if you have a preference for one or the other).  DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION (OR EMAIL NOTICE) is SUNDAY, APRIL 21.

General travel baseball information:

Travel baseball is for those players interested in a more competitive baseball experience. LMLL fields summer and fall travel teams from the 8U through 17U age groups (10U through 13U teams often play a spring season as well).  Here are some of the common questions regarding LMLL travel baseball:

Details for Players:

  • What is travel baseball? - Travel baseball gives our players the opportunity to represent our league and the communities of Larchmont/Mamaroneck/Rye Neck in competition against other towns and little leagues.  The level of play and commitment to practices is higher than that found in rec baseball and consequently it is usually the highest skilled rec players that are offered travel roster spots.
  • How far is the travel? – Most games will be against other teams in the lower Westchester area but could be as far as a 40-minute drive.  There are no games requiring overnight accommodations.
  • What is the required commitment? - Summer teams will typically practice and/or play games 5 days a week over a season that runs from early June through August 6th.  Weekday games and practices are conducted 5pm and later leaving time for activities during the day.  Weekend games and practices can be any time during the day or evening. Players must be available for the entire season.  Families that take trips or vacation during the travel season create a difficult situation for the entire team to remain competitive throughout the season. Players who are selected to the team we ask you plan trips after August 6th, the end of the summer travel season. Players are expected to attend all practices and games.
  • How is the 8U summer team selected? – The 8U travel teams will be selected through a formal tryout.  The LMLL travel committee with the assistance of the 8U travel coaches will conduct the tryout assessments and finalize the summer roster.  Registering your child's interest in travel baseball and filling out the short questionnaire will help give fair consideration to all interested players.  However, registering and trying out does not guarantee your child will be offered a roster spot.  In most years we have more interested players than we do roster spots, and some are turned away.  If your child is not offered a spot, please do not be discouraged.  Particularly at the youngest age groups there will be opportunities to be considered for future teams and even those selected to our 8U team this year are not guaranteed selection to future travel teams. Additionally, after this summer and fall seasons for the 8U team LMLL will likely have two travel teams at each age.
  • When will 8U and 9U players trying out be notified about team selection? – Players will be notified if they have or have not been selected to a team by Monday, May 9th.
  • What is the fall season and how are fall teams selected? - The fall season starts in September and usually runs through October sometimes in the first week of November.  Fall travel is played on the weekends with 2-3 practices during the week.  All summer players who want to play in the fall are guaranteed spots.  But in almost all years there are spots available for additional players who did not play in the summer. Players who are not selected to the summer team will be reconsidered for fall once we know the number of players returning for the fall season from our summer roster.  This will be determined early to mid-August.
  • What are the fees? - Fees for the summer are approximately $850 which includes the uniform.  Fall fees will be a lower amount and non-summer players will pay an additional uniform fee.
  • Please register no later than Sunday 4/21/24 (see above for registration information)

Details for Those Interested in Coaching:

  • LMLL is committed to selecting coaches that provide the youth of our community a positive role model.
  • LMLL requires volunteers to always display qualities of strong character and good sportsmanship and to demand the same of their coaching staff, managers, players, and parents.
  • Adult volunteers who are interested in coaching a travel baseball team with LMLL should have a solid foundation of the game.
  • Consideration for a head coaching position requires the applicant to possess the ability to teach the fundamentals of baseball.  The coach must be able to identify and improve a player’s strength and skills as well as build the overall team.  They also must be able to devote the time and availability described above – coaching Travel is a significantly higher commitment than Rec.
  • If you have played baseball at a high level (HS Varsity and above) we especially would like to get you involved, however, prior playing experience is not mandatory.
  • If you are interested in coaching summer travel, please BOTH register to coach AND contact us by replying to this email at BBTravel@LMLittleLeague.org with a short bio of your involvement with youth baseball or similar experience.  Registration/submission does NOT indicate that you will be coaching, only that you will be considered.
  • If you feel you do not have the skills to be a head coach, we still need volunteers for the team to function.  Assistant coaches, team manager/administration roles are vital to a successful program. Please also register AND reach out to us per above if you would consider this role as well.
  • If you are interested in coaching but unsure about the commitment you can contact us with any questions by replying to this email.
